The Mixtape Strategy

Rooted in North Minneapolis and inspired by Houston White’s journey, The Mixtape Strategy works to cultivate a Black-led, culturally rich, and economically thriving district where businesses grow, artists create, and young people see excellence in their own backyard. Through workforce development, placemaking, and community-driven programming, we aim to honor and elevate the legacy of Black American culture while building a self-sustaining, mixed-income neighborhood that inspires what’s possible.

WHY CAMDENTOWN?

Our rich cultural roots.

The Camdentown Development Project is aiming to take a historically underserved North Minneapolis neighborhood and turn it into a destination, without displacing the people who live there. They’re the ones who make it dope. Here at The Mixtape Strategy, we often ask ourselves, “What if Prince had built Paisley Park in North Minneapolis?” What if the neighborhood that raised him had been able to capitalize on the invaluable cultural resource it helped shape?

This fall, we invite you to invest in people, in place, and in possibility. We’re the Roses is The Mixtape Strategy’s current fundraising campaign focused on one powerful idea: “Planting people in a place that centers and celebrates culture—building shared prosperity and 100 years of generational wealth.”

WE’RE THE ROSES

  • Support career pathways and aspirational workforce housing so Northside residents can live where they work, grow where they’re rooted, and thrive without leaving. From experiential job training to entrepreneurial support, your donation builds real opportunity.

  • Help bring people together through purpose, authenticity, and joy. Your support fuels initiatives like the Camdentown Tennis Club and our Summer in Camdentown event series, while also strengthening micro-grants that spark community-led projects.

  • Your investment reimagines community-focused development. We are laying the groundwork for multi-unit brownstones—beautiful, attainable homes rooted in Black culture and community. Think modern, lasting designs where families can grow, build wealth, and belong for generations.
